About Charles Wysocki (Deceased)

Charles Wysocki, master of Americana painting, has been an artist all of his life. Since an early age his goals and aspirations have always been of an artistic nature. He was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1928 he grew up knowing what he wanted most out of life was to draw and paint. He attended Cas-Tech High School with a focus in art. Drafted into the army after high school he unofficially became the "company artist" by making signs for the bases and painting portraits of officer's wives. After the armed forces, Charles attended Art Center School of Design in Los Angeles, California and after graduation he returned to Detroit and worked as a commercial artist where he was very successful doing advertising for Dodge and other large companies. Upon moving back to LA and working as a freelance artist he met and married Elizabeth in 1960.

His love for this country, for antiques and for New England lead him to starting in his trademark Primitive or Americana style. With these new paintings and original style he had a one man show at the Nut Tree in central California where he sold every piece on display and he has been a freelance artist since. In 1969 he moved to Lake Arrowhead with his family. He has three grown children (David 33, Millie 30 and Matthew 28). In 1972 he began his Americana Calendar which is now in its 26th year of publication and is regularly in the top 10 best sellers in the country. It was in 1979 that his first limited edition lithograph was published. He has produced over 80 limited edition lithographs since.

Charles has also won numerous awards and has been the subject of many magazine articles. Most recently, over thirty of his original paintings were on display at the Richard Nixon Library; including one original that hangs in the White House. . He has even been on the Today show and recently on CNN. His accomplishments have been plentiful, and he remains one of the premier artists in the country today. Best Known for his paintings that depict early American life and simpler times, Charles is a world-renowned artist whose work is carried in hundreds of galleries across the country and throughout the world.
